Maudsley’s Test is a common orthopedic test to assess the presence of tennis elbow, in medical terms known as lateral epicondylalgia. This test is designed to put stress on the extensor digitorum that also originates from the lateral epicondyle.
To perform the test have your patient in a comfortable position, stabilize the humerus, and palpate for the lateral epicondyle. Then ask your patient to pronate his forearm and then resist extension of the third digit of the hand distal to the proximal interphalangeal joint.
This test is positive if your patient complains about sudden pain at the lateral epicondyle.
Other common tests to assess Tennis Elbow are the Cozen’s Test and the Mill’s Test.
