Description

Rehabilitating athletes engaged in multidirectional sports requires a highly specific and targeted approach. Traditionally, physiotherapists are primarily trained to address the consequences of injuries—such as pain, mobility restrictions, and strength deficits. However, progressing from these basic outcomes to reintegrating complex movement patterns is often a more challenging step in the rehabilitation journey. Nevertheless, this integration is critical for enabling a safe and high-performing return to sport-specific demands.

This two-day course offers an in-depth exploration of the movement patterns inherent to multidirectional sports—such as acceleration, deceleration, various forms of change of direction, and agility. The neuromuscular, biomechanical, and neurocognitive aspects of these movements are thoroughly explained. These theoretical foundations are then applied in the clinical assessment of athletes, either within a rehabilitation context or with the aim of optimizing performance.

On the second day, the course presents the latest evidence-based rehabilitation principles that can be implemented to guide athletes back to their performance level in multidirectional sports. Core concepts of motor learning, along with various methods of strength and movement training, are introduced and subsequently practiced in real-world applications.

The course content is grounded in the latest scientific research and enriched by the instructor’s extensive hands-on experience, enabling participants to directly translate knowledge into clinical practice. Ample time is allocated to practice key clinical skills and engage in interactive discussions around specific case studies.

Study Goals

After completing this course day, you as a physiotherapist will be able to:

  • Identify and articulate the biomechanical, neuromuscular, and neurocognitive aspects of specific multidirectional sports activities.
  • Extract and interpret the key factors from a movement evaluation.
  • Apply training principles tailored to the multidirectional athlete.
  • Effectively implement rehabilitation strategies in practice for multidirectional athletes.
