SUMMARY

In this comprehensive masterclass, we explore the science and evidence base behind shockwave therapy, focusing on its application in key pathologies such as Achilles tendinopathy, greater trochanteric pain syndrome, and tennis elbow. The masterclass emphasizes the importance of integrating shockwave therapy with a holistic rehabilitation approach, which includes education, load management, and progressive loading to achieve optimal outcomes.

Benoy shares his clinical insights from his practice in London, illustrating the effectiveness of shockwave therapy in both NHS and private settings. He underscores the need for careful patient selection, advocating its use primarily as an adjunct to other rehabilitative strategies rather than a standalone solution. The session also highlights the physiological mechanisms of shockwave therapy, including enhanced collagen synthesis and pain modulation, which facilitate tendon healing and recovery.

Moreover, the masterclass addresses the common misconceptions and limitations of shockwave therapy, emphasizing the necessity of patient education and realistic expectations about recovery timelines. With a thorough analysis of current research and clinical guidelines, participants gain a deeper understanding of how to safely and effectively incorporate shockwave therapy into their practice.

This masterclass is not only a testament to the evolving landscape of physiotherapy but also an invaluable resource for clinicians seeking to enhance their therapeutic arsenal for managing chronic tendinopathy.
