Refresher Course – IVRT Training for Vestibular Rehabilitation Specialists
Since 2017, the IVRT training to become a specialist in vestibular rehabilitation has been offered in German-speaking countries. Each year, 500–600 physiotherapists and occupational therapists in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria are certified by the IVRT (Institute for Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy). In the Netherlands, the program has been available since 2020, and since then, more than 60 therapists have been officially certified. Graduates are listed in the European IVRT therapist directory, which now includes over 1,000 addresses of specialized and motivated practices and clinics.
With over 3,000 monthly visits, the IVRT therapist list is actively used by doctors and patients. To ensure that certified IVRT therapists always maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills, the listing in the therapist directory is valid for three years. By attending the refresher course, graduates of the IVRT program can extend their listing in the therapist register for another four years.
In addition, the content of the IVRT vestibular rehabilitation training is reviewed and updated annually to reflect new evidence, clinical applicability, and didactic improvements. This continuing education ensures that graduates from different years stay at the same professional level.
Content – Practical:
-
Practice with the condensed test battery for vestibular dizziness.
-
Supervised practice of BPPV tests and maneuvers, including updates with current findings.
-
Advanced diagnostic and treatment training for both vestibular migraine and functional dizziness (PPPD), which have each been expanded by 1–2 teaching units in the past three years.
Content – Theory:
-
