{"id":5044,"date":"2021-03-13T12:12:13","date_gmt":"2021-03-13T11:12:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.physiotutors.com\/?p=5044"},"modified":"2023-03-16T15:37:32","modified_gmt":"2023-03-16T14:37:32","slug":"why-shoulder-rehab-should-be-like-a-delicious-pizza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.physiotutors.com\/why-shoulder-rehab-should-be-like-a-delicious-pizza\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Shoulder Rehab Should be Like a Delicious Pizza"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Okay, this is the pizza blog and you\u2019re probably thinking: How is a pizza related to rotator cuff-related shoulder pain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the pizza model is a great analogy for rotator cuff-related shoulder pain rehab.<br>And although this analogy is of course too simplistic to be transferred to all variables in human beings, I believe it\u2019s a very good way to memorize complex knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>1) Dough = Education<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.physiotutors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Pizza-dough.png\" alt=\"Pizza dough\" class=\"wp-image-6411\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So, in the analogy of a pizza \u2013 first, there is the dough, which I would like to compare to Education.<br>The basis of your rehabilitation strategy is education. There is no pizza without dough. There is no rehabilitation strategy without educating your patient. Run, walk, bicycle \u2013 this is probably the healthiest part of a pizza, but this is also the healthiest part of your rehab program. Take advantage of your patient in your practice to advise them to be fitter in general. This doesn\u2019t only mean preventing other co-morbidities but also has an influence on your pain perception for instance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>3) Cheese = Progressive loading program<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.physiotutors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Pizza-cheese-1.png\" alt=\"Pizza cheese 1\" class=\"wp-image-6416\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Third, you got the mozzarella\/cheese. This will be your progressive loading program of the musculotendinous unit of the rotator cuff and also what really makes the pizza delicious.<br>And actually, you now have all the ingredients for a pizza Margherita \u2013 which is the most popular pizza worldwide by the way. You got your education, healthy lifestyle advice, and a progressive loading program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4) Ham = Manual Therapy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.physiotutors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Ham-1.png\" alt=\"Ham 1\" class=\"wp-image-6417\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But okay, but you can also pimp your pizza with ham for example. We could compare the ham to manual therapy. This might be of added value: It\u2019s completely again optional, but can convince your patient to eat the pizza, but absolutely not mandatory. I compare these extra ingredients to dry needling, massage, shockwave, taping etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6) Pineapple = Therapeutic Ultrasound, Laser etc.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.physiotutors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Pineapple-1.png\" alt=\"Pineapple 1\" class=\"wp-image-6419\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay, we have to talk about pineapple of course. In my opinion, pineapple doesn\u2019t belong on a pizza and you could compare it to your therapeutic ultrasound machine \u2013 in other words, it\u2019s useless for your treatment success.<br>P.S. Physiotutors agree with the fact that ultrasound &amp; laser doesn&#8217;t belong in shoulder rehab, but a good pizza Hawaii can actually be very delicious!;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, this was a very rough overview of how a delicious pizza relates to rotator cuff-related shoulder pain rehab.
