This course is designed to equip physiotherapists and healthcare professionals with the advanced, evidence-based knowledge and practical skills necessary to assess, diagnose, and implement phase-specific rehabilitation protocols for the ankle, ensuring a complete recovery and true long-term stability. Whether you are new to this area or seeking to refine your expertise, this course provides a clear pathway to help patients return to full function and minimize reinjury risk.

Course Overview

This course delves into the intricate anatomy and pathomechanics of the ankle joint, with a core focus on the consequences of lateral ankle sprain (LAS) and the transition to chronic ankle instability (CAI). You will explore the latest research and clinical guidelines, learning how to perform thorough, criteria-based assessments and implement rehabilitation protocols that are specific to each phase of recovery, addressing the sensorimotor, strength, and functional deficits that underlie reinjury.

What You Will Learn

In-Depth Understanding of Ankle Anatomy and Pathology: Build a strong foundation in the functional anatomy of the ankle and foot. Understand the immediate and long-term consequences of a lateral ankle sprain (LAS) and how to recognize and manage the continuum to Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI).

Comprehensive Assessment Techniques: Master evidence-based assessment techniques to accurately classify ankle injuries and identify key deficits. Learn how to differentiate between mechanical and functional instability and select appropriate outcome measures for ongoing monitoring.

Tailored Phase-Specific Rehabilitation Programs: Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation programs based on the specific phase of healing (Phase 1: Protection, Phase 2: Restoration, Phase 3: Function). You will learn how to restore range of motion, strength, and crucial sensorimotor control, which is vital for preventing recurrence.

Return-to-Sport Strategies: Discover how to create safe and effective return-to-sport protocols. You’ll learn to utilize objective, criteria-based testing to monitor progress and ensure that athletes are fully prepared to return to their sport with minimal risk of re-injury.

Interactive Learning and Practical Application

Video Demonstrations and Quizzes: Watch detailed video demonstrations of assessment techniques and rehabilitation exercises for the ankle. Reinforce your learning through interactive quizzes that test your knowledge and ensure you are ready to apply these techniques in practice.

A.I. Case Studies and Real-World Examples: Work through practical case studies that simulate real-world clinical scenarios, from acute sprain to managing persistent instability. These exercises will help you refine your clinical decision-making and develop effective, evidence-based treatment plans.

Why This Course Stands Out

Expert Instruction: The course is led by renowned ankle expert Jente Wagemens, combining years of clinical experience with academic research. The instructor brings a wealth of practical knowledge to ensure you gain skills that are immediately applicable in the clinic.

Evidence-Based Techniques and Approaches: Stay current with the latest research on ankle sprain management and CAI. This course delivers practical, evidence-based techniques that adhere to international guidelines and can be applied directly to your clinical practice.

Comprehensive, Practical Learning: You’ll gain a deep understanding of the complexities of the injured ankle and leave with a complete blueprint for assessment, phase-specific rehabilitation, and criteria-based return-to-sport testing.

Outcome

By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to assess, diagnose, and treat lateral ankle sprains and chronic ankle instability effectively. You’ll be equipped with evidence-based tools to help your patients achieve full, long-lasting stability while minimizing the risk of recurrence.
1.
